SPECIFIC PROJECTS POLICY AND MANAGEMENT
GSL personnel joined a team of experts in reviewing and drafting the Kenya Energy Policy under the supervision of UNDP for the Government of Kenya. .
The study was carried out in 2005 by Norplan to review Uganda Electricity Transmission Company (UETCL) management capability and systems and recommend appropriate actions for improvement of UETCL transmission system service delivery in terms of quality, efficiency and reliability, among others in a liberalized environment. GSL was retained as sub-consultant involved in utility operations performance analysis, among other tasks. HYDRO

This was done in association with West Japan Engineering Consultants (WestJEC). The services were completed in October 2003.
The contract was awarded to West Japan Engineering Consultants (WestJEC) by KenGen, with GSL as Sub-consultant. The scope was supervision of geothermal wells drilling at Olkaria Domes, by a Chinese drilling Contractor. GSL provided all in-country logistical and liaison services. The work funded by KfW started in May 2005.
Awarded to West Japan Engineering Consultants (WestJEC) by KenGen with GeothermEx of California USA and GSL as Sub-consultants. GSL provided professional services as well as in-country logistical and liaison services. GSL scope of work included working with the main Consultant WJEC to prepare Olkaria (I, II and IV) conceptual model and subsequent calibration of numerical simulation model, to determine steam adequacy for Olkaria II 3rd Unit, propose options for upgrade of Olkaria I power station and carry out feasibility study of Olkaria IV (domes). GSL input included participating in assessment of status of existing Olkaria I plant, substation and transmission line conceptual designs, including the proposed plants in the Power Least Cost Development Plan and environmental scoping. The study funded by World Bank was completed in 2011.
WJEC was retained in 2010 by JICA to undertake this JICA analysis of geothermal energy development in 5 African countries of Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti. GSL was sub-contracted by WJEC to undertake power sector analysis and provide logistics and coordination of study team with power sector players in the 5 countries. This included review of power system data in each country and the plans for power and transmission capacity expansion as included in their respective least cost power development plans.
GSL has been providing consultancy services (technical and pricing) to a Kenyan private energy company, ECOGEN Kenya Limited, in its business development. GEOTHERMAL Feasibility Study and Bid document preparation for Energy Sector Recovery Project Distribution Reinforcement and Upgrade component with Norplan A.S and Stattnet, funded by IDA. The services were completed in September 2004. |
